Harried Mom Homework

Remember "playing school" as a kid? The bossy neighborhood girl always wanted to be the teacher and you went along. I'm playing school in my house these days. Between grocery shopping, feeding the dog and doing (or not doing) the ironing, my dear son has assigned me a geography report due in a few weeks. "Choose a country," he instructed. "I expect a poster, too." I went along when he gave the family a few geography lessons. His enthusiasm was sweet, exclaiming, "We're going to learn about the world!" I now know the population of China and when to expect rain in Australia. What I don't know, is how to ditch this geography assignment. I think I'm stuck, unless I want to break my son's heart. Harried mom homework. The atlas is out. Now, to choose a country for my report.

Out of the Woods

"Into the Woods"—the school play, is officially over! The kids had a blast and—I must brag—my son was great. He even waved to his grandparents in the audience during his scenes. After hearing the music for two months and watching the show too many times to count, if they revive this show on Broadway, I'm ready to audition. I know every word, song and what props to use—even when to milk the fake cow. Much more fun than vacuuming, I bet.

Welcome Cats in Hats

In honor of Dr. Seuss, his books and birthday tomorrow, I'd like to welcome any Cats in Hats who'd like to visit. Just drop by, entertain my kids, destroy this quasi-clean house (ha!) and then leave everything perfect (better than ever) while I take the afternoon off. Feel free to leave Thing 1 and Thing 2 behind. I'm sure I can find something to keep them occupied.
